James H. Douglas, age 78, of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away Friday August 1, 2025 at Treasure Coast Hospice. Jim was born in Ft. Lauderdale to parents William B. Douglas and Catherine Douglas. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy, daughter Leanne Franklin (husband Shawn), son Robert James Douglas, and grandson William Franklin.
Jim was an Army veteran, serving in Vietnam from 1970-71. Following his service he became a Broward County paramedic, working for 32 years with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue. Following his retirement, he and Peggy traveled around the United States, and loved going on cruises. They moved to Tradition in 2019 enjoying coffee on the porch and watching all the wildlife in the preserve behind their house.
Jim was a man of few words, strong and stoic. He survived three different bouts with cancer, but was recently diagnosed with ALS. We wish to thank Treasure Coast Hospice for their wonderful care, even though it was for only a short time.
In addition, Jim was predeceased by his brothers Bill and Ralph. He is survived by his sister Helen, brother and sister-in-law Ron and Barbara Magahey, and many nieces and nephews in Florida and around the United States. Jim is also survived by his golden retriever Kali, who provided us with daily entertainment.
Jim will be entered into rest at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 State Road 7, Wellington, Florida 33449.
