Born on May 9, 1943, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, Mary Ann grew up in a
close-knit community and graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic
Academy of Brooklyn. She married and started her family in Brooklyn before
moving to Matawan, New Jersey, in 1969. There, she and her husband Warren
raised their children before relocating to Freehold in 1989. In 2000, they settled in
Manchester, New Jersey. After retiring from the Monmouth County
Superintendent’s Office in 1996, Mary Ann and Warren embraced the "snowbird"
lifestyle, splitting their time between New Jersey and Port St. Lucie, Florida where
they lived in Kings Isle and the Cascades Port St Lucie West .
Throughout her career, Mary Ann held various positions that reflected her
dedication to service and community. She worked as a secretary at Blue Cross in
New York and contributed to the Matawan Shade Tree Commission. She also
served as a lunch aide at Ravine Drive School in Matawan and as a receptionist at
Berg Animal Hospital. Her career in education spanned multiple school districts
across New Jersey, including Red Bank, Asbury Park, Colts Neck, and the
Monmouth County’s Superintendent’s Office.
A devout Catholic, Mary Ann was deeply involved with St. Bernadette Catholic
Church in Port St. Lucie. She was an active member of the Angels Prayer Shawl
Ministry and served as a Eucharistic minister, bringing communion to homebound
parishioners—an act that reflected her compassionate spirit and unwavering faith.
Mary Ann found joy in music and dancing and had a deep love for dogs. She
enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and took great pleasure in cooking
and baking for those she loved. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression
on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband Warren; her brother Anthony Tulumello;
her children Michael Evensen and his wife Kathleen, Mary Kern and her husband
Michael, Deborah Hallinan and her husband Robert; as well as her cherished
grandchildren Diana Mitchell and her husband Sage, Alexandra Kern, Andrea
Kern, Christopher Hallinan and his wife Jennie, Matthew Hallinan, and Jack
Hallinan. She was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Lillian Tulumello.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Sunday,
March 2, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Aycock at Tradition (12571 Tradition
Parkway, Port St. Lucie, FL 34987). A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday,
March 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church (350 NW California
Blvd., Port St. Lucie, FL 34986).
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mary Ann's memory be made
to Alzheimer's Association, St. Judes Children Hospital, or the ASPCA.
Mary Ann’s legacy of love and devotion will live on through the many lives she
touched. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
