Alice Merrill

Windham- Alice F. Merrill, 91, of Portland and Windham passed away on Friday October 7, 2011 at Ledgewood Manor in Windham. The Daughter of Greenway and Sarah (Deskins) Vance she was born in Laeger, W. Virginia on May 29, 1920. She was one of seven children. After graduation from Laeger High School she moved to Richmond, Virginia where she met and married her husband, Franklin Merrill in 1943. Alice was an Avon representative in the Portland area for many years. She was employed by Lady Grace Intimate Apparel for thirty eight years. Alice was predeceased by her husband Frank of almost 45 years, two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by a daughter Pamela and her husband Lawson Doughty of Cumberland ME. A son, Robert Merrill and his wife Kathy also of Cumberland, a grandson Keith Doughty and his wife Stephanie of Gray ME, two granddaughters Debora D. Bailey of South Carolina, and Tammy L. Merrill of Portland ME. She is also survived by a sister Lois Lakey and her husband of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Monday October 10, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford Street Portland. A funeral service with The Rev. Linda Brewster officiating, will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday October 11, 2011 at 1:00 PM.
