She was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, on November 1, 1953, the oldest daughter of Ninus Papaz and Eleanor LaPierre Papaz. She grew up in Falmouth and Cumberland, Maine, graduating from Greely High School in 1972.
After high school, Andrea married William Malone and together they had one daughter, Melissa, and resided in Portland. In 1996, she married the love of her life, Stephen Smith, continuing to reside in Portland until present day.
Andrea was a loan originator for Sun Savings Bank, gaining experience and knowledge of the construction industry. From there she went on to manage the offices of various construction companies. In 1998, she changed careers, going to work for the City of Portland, beginning as a receptionist for the Public Assemblies Facilities Division. Shortly thereafter, she worked her way up to Director of Sales and Marketing, booking events for Merrill Auditorium, the Expo, Fitzpatrick Stadium and other city venues.
Andrea enjoyed and was passionate about a diversity of interests, ranging from performance dance to showing Afghan Hounds and Shih-tzus. As a child, she spent her summers at her family’s treasured camp, spending her days waterskiing, beginning at the young age of 5. As the winters set in, she’d spend the colder months enjoying downhill snow skiing. As she grew older, her interests broadened to include horseback riding, ballet, tap and jazz. She continued to dance and perform well into her adult life.
After her daughter, Melissa, was born, she enjoyed going to watch her dance and perform as well as compete in sporting events. This continued when Andrea’s grandson, Lucas, was born. Attending his activities and sporting events was one of her very favorite past times.
Andrea enjoyed spending time with Steve, whether it was long drives up the coast in their convertible, vacations in Florida, building their dream home together or simply spending time at camp.
She loved cooking, entertaining friends and family in her home, taking long walks in her neighborhood and shopping.
Andrea was predeceased by her parents, Ninus and Eleanor, her stepfather, Mal Lary, her mother-in-law, Dolores Smith, and her step-son, Kevin Malone. She is survived by her husband, Steve, her daughter, Melissa Malone-Soutuyo, her son-in-law, Angel Soutuyo and their son, Lucas, as well as her step-son, Brian Smith, sister, Robin, brother, Greg, her father-in-law, Llewellyn Smith and his wife, Theresa Mancini.
