
Ann Jordan was a resident of the Munjoy community in Portland for nearly 70 years. After marrying, she left her birthplace of Troy, NY and settled on ‘The Hill’, Where she became a ‘Den Mother’, for the neighborhood Cub Scouts.
In the 1960’s she was a member and secretary of the Portland Chapter of the NAACP, holding meetings in her living room during those turbulent times.
She became a volunteer for The Gate, a community coffee house formed in the 60’s that became the creative cradle for many poets, artists and musicians. From those days she maintained many valued relationships. She was a dedicated fan of Schooner Fare and Devonsquare, among others. Ann became known for her annual hand-crafted ‘award pillows’ for the annual Jack McPhillips Memorial Fund concerts.
She spent many years as a secretary. She dedicated many years to working for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Citizens for Voluntary Action in Portland. She finished her career as a long-time office manager for Chester & Vestal on the crest of Munjoy Hill.
Ann was predeceased by her sister Patricia Brower, and her brothers Lawrence Mambert, and William Mambert
She is survived by her children, Asa D. Jordan, Chet Jordan, and Ellen Sanborn, her grandchildren, Asa W Jordan, Timothy Sanborn, Kendra Sanborn, Kelly Jordan, Sarah Yates, and Alexis Betters, 7 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Ann’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of the Seaside Nursing & Retirement Home in Portland for their dedication and care during her stay there. They would also like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for providing guidance and compassion as her loved ones gathered around her.
