Scarborough,ME- On the morning of Monday, January 26, 2026, Arthur Byron Ledue Sr. transitioned to his heavenly home. He lived a long, loving, full and wonderful life, and his generosity of spirit and heart impacted countless people right up until his last breath.
He was born on February 24th, 1932 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, a son of Byron and Hildegard Ledue. The family moved to the West End of Portland, ME, when Arthur was just a toddler, where he was raised along with his 4 siblings. He attended Cheverus High School in Portland, where he was a storied sprinter on the track team, which he squeezed in between his studies and his after-school job.
While in Basic Training for the Korean War in Maryland, Arthur met Doris Beaulieu. The two fell in love through letters and dating and were wed on June 25th, 1955, and remained together for 63 years until Doris’ passing in 2018. The two raised five children together, all of which still live in southern Maine: Arthur Jr. and wife Belinda of Scarborough, Gene and wife Marianne of South Portland, Mary Ledue-Bell and husband Jeff of Hollis Center, ME, Anne Ledue-Hobson, (deceased) and her surviving husband, Jerry of Sanford, and Thomas and his partner Deneen Bernier of Shapleigh. After several employment stops in Massachusetts, the family settled back in Portland’s Deering Center in 1972 where Arthur lived until moving into the Veterans Home in Scarborough in 2022.
Energized by the desire to provide for his family, Arthur’s career was primarily focused on managing tire stores, primarily working with working for Goodyear Tire Company. New England management group utilized him as a troubleshooter for poorly performing stores where he would transfer the operation into a profitable unit. He would also transform the lives of his employees who worked for him. Arthur had a great eye for talent, giving them opportunities and a guiding hand that they didn’t find elsewhere.
Arthur was always about creating and supporting community. He was President of Portland Kiwanis club for years and was instrumental in raising money for many needy people and causes. For more than 20 years he also ran the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Portland, where he and the staff provided countless warm meals to the homeless of Portland, with acceptance and safety and love.
Love and support for his family was always Arthur’s highest priority, which centered around Doris and his 5 children and their significant others, 17 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, but also reached across his and Doris’ siblings and many niece’s and nephews. Many were comforted by the love and safety and generosity of the home Arthur and Doris provided. The last chapter of his life had been his years at the Veteran’s home in Scarborough, where many staff and residents became another extension of his family. His continuing good nature, thoughtfulness, and good heart made everyone’s days lighter.
Arthur’s family invites all wishing to pay their last respects from 4-7 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday at St. Maximillian Church, 150 Black Point Rd, Scarborough, ME 04074. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
