

He was born in St. Andrews, Florida on March 10, 1923 the son of William Wesley and Ollie Mae (Bazzell) Whitehurst. After his schooling, Coley entered the United States Navy during World War II where he served as a 2nd Class Boatswain's Mate. After leaving the service he met and married his wife of 71 years Laurette Danis Whitehurst on July 19, 1945 and together they raised their daughter Patricia.
Coley retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard always having his heart with the Navy. He was a Mason of the Dunlap Lodge #0047, a Shriner, Elk, and member of the Eastern Star always looking for ways to help others in need. Right up until last year he spent the winter months in the warm climate of Port St. Lucie, FL and the summers on the beautiful Ossipee Lake.
He is survived by his wife Laurette of 71 years, daughter Patricia A. Whitehurst and her partner Jane A. Bergeron, grandchildren Michael Prue and Joye, Joseph Whitehurst and Tamarah, Coleen Whitehurst –Hatt and Daniel, great grandchildren Coley, Rebecca, and Sophia Hatt, Lily and Olivia Whitehurst, Kristopher, Sarah, and Rose Austin, and a sister Velma Pippin of Port St. Joe, FL. He was predeceased by his brothers: Samuel, Lindor, and William.
