

David Meuarld Petrie, 85, formerly of Portland, ME, died peacefully at the Avita facility in Wells, ME on April 26, 2026 after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 25, 1941 in Weymouth, Massachusetts to the late Meuarld and Helen (Friese) Petrie. David moved to Maine with his parents as a young boy, and made Maine his home for the remainder of his life.
David Petrie was the beloved husband of the late Ray Giroux. They married in 2013 after being together for 55 years. They resided happily in their home in Portland with the many cherished dogs that they shared throughout the years.
David was an avid collector of antiques, and enjoyed scouring antique stores for treasures. He loved to share his broad knowledge of antiques and antique cars. David was also an avid gardener and loved tending to his yard and gardens.
After high school, David joined the Army in 1959 as an engineer and equipment specialist, and was honorably discharged in 1962.
Throughout his very long career in sales David worked at Bay Dental, JJ Cummings, and lastly Patterson Dental, selling dental supplies and equipment to dentists and dental labs over a vast territory. He was adored by his co-workers and his clients, whom he enjoyed adorning with treats on any given occasion. He had a great sense of humor and a big heart. David retired in July of 2015 at the age of 74 - a testament to his work ethic, love of people, and love of his job.
David will be remembered by family, friends, and neighbors for his humor, his generosity, and his thoughtfulness. He will also be remembered by all for the knowledge that he loved to share.
David is survived by his sister, Joyce (Petrie) and her husband Donald Capobianco of Hudson, Massachusetts. David was preceded in death by his sister Edith (Petrie) Mendes of Taunton, Massachusetts. In addition to his sisters, David leaves his many nieces and nephews - Michael Madden (predeceased), Patricia Sweeney, Stephen Madden, Kathleen Gardner, Carolyn Rannacher, Steven Capobianco, Dawn Vittiligo, Debra Rocci, and Jeffrey Capobianco. He is also survived by his dear and loyal friend Alex Greenwald, and the family of his spouse, the Giroux family.
David's family invites you to a time of visitation Thursday, May 7th from 11:00am to 1:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00pm at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, ME. This will be followed by a committal service at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
