Donald E. Smith

Portland-Donald E. Smith age 75 of Portland died May 11, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Portland. He was born in Farmington, ME on October 5, 1935 the son of Albert and Marguerite Hammond Smith. Donald attended Falmouth Schools and graduated from Falmouth High School in 1953. After completing vocational school at SMVTI, He began a career as a floor mechanic and later served two years in the US Army. Upon discharge, he continued his career as a floor mechanic until he retired. For many years he operated his own flooring company, Floorsmiths, with two of his sons..

Donald is survived by his loving wife Shirley, two brothers Gordon and his wife Joan and Allen and his wife Irene, 15 children and their spouses Lon, Leonard, Mark, Marie, Virginia, Donna, Dana, Roger, Dale, Leslie, Michael, Manuela, George, John, Theresa, 33 grandchildren and their children, as well as his former wife Beverly, his life~long friend Tony Palozzi and many others. He was predeceased by his parents and late wife Blanche Messer Hicks.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, ME. A memorial graveside service will be held Monday, May 17, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St., Portland, ME.
