She is also surrounded by the love of her father Frank A. Dickey, and her mother Evelyn F. Peters Dickey. Donna was one of 12 children. She was the 11th child with 7 brothers and 4 sisters. She grew up on a family farm in North Anson. Her experiences in childhood and on the farm helped make her a gentle-hearted person. Donna had a quiet but strong demeanor. Donna met the love of her life, Roland, in Madison, while they worked in the paper mill. Roland working nights, Donna working days, they met at the time clock when punching in/out. It was fate. They found their soul mates.
Soon after, Donna and Roland's daughter Marjorie was born. An unbreakable bond between them formed in a deep connected love like no other. Donna and Roland lived a wonderful life together for 57 years, until Roland's passing in February 2024.
Donna dedicated years of her life providing care to others, and their families. She was selfless in doing so and found great joy in watching families grow and live their lives. She did not consider this work, as the families became part of hers. She spent many hours expressing her creative side and enjoyed making handcrafted gifts for others. She loved being outside on a beautiful day, often on the porch relaxing. She enjoyed taking walks in the sun and appreciated the simple things that matter in life, observing nature and its beauty. Donna had an immense love for her dogs, past and present, they were like her children. She would often be spotted in Evergreen Cemetery walking them; Lucy wearing her dog sweater and pearls, and Gracie running in circles. Her smile was so beautiful, bright and warm as the sun.
In April 2024 Donna was diagnosed with a rare cancer - myelodysplastic syndrome. Stoically, she battled this cancer for 20 months and was treated by a wonderful team at The Maine Cancer Care Center and at Maine Medical Center.
A special thank you to Dr. Andrew Rogers and his team for all the empathy and kindness you shared.
