

Edith was born in Portland on May 28, 1924; the daughter of the late Arthur N. and Rachel A. (Johnson) Harris. She attended local schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1942. Edith would continue her education at Westbrook Junior College, graduating in 1944, and later she would graduate from Boston University in 1948.
Edith proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy, and upon her honorable discharge she taught briefly at Coney High School. Edith however served most of her working career at Maine Medical Center as the Director of Medical Records. A job she loved dearly and would eventually retire from at the age of 65.
Edith had a great love of children, and many enduring friendships over the years. She kept close to her family and loved just spending quality time with them. She enjoyed travelling and trips to the beach always made for fond memories.
Edith is survived by numerous cousins, extended family members and friends.
A 3:00 PM funeral service for Edith will be held this Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. Committal services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday September 30th at the Evergreen Cemetery, Stevens Ave. Portland.
