

PORTLAND – Edward J. (Dewey) Hamilton, 64, of Portland, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011 in after a long illness. He was born on January 1, 1947 in Portland, ME. The son of Arline Hamilton and the late Wilfred A. Hamilton of Portland.
After attending Portland schools he entered the United States Army and served 21 years, including three separate tours of duty in Vietnam. He was active in the American Legion, AMVETS and VFW. After retiring from the United States Army he worked several years for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.
He was predeceased by his wife Gail Adkins Hamilton; two sisters, Becky Hamilton and Pauline Rhodes
He is survived by his sons, Mitchell Hamilton of Weymouth, MA and Edward Jr. of Portland, ME; daughter, Connie Ballister of Chalais, France; brother, Wilfred (Will) Hamilton of Standish, ME; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
A celebration of life visitation will be held with family and friends on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, located on 199 Woodford Street in Portland. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
