Portland- Emma (Toppi) Carrigan, 79, died peacefully on March 21, 2012 at Fallbrook Residential Care Facility. She was born November 2, 1932 to Rocco and Rose (Profenno) Toppi and grew up on Munjoy Hill. She attended Portland schools and was employed at B&M Baked Beans. She married Theodore Carrigan, had two children and became a stay at home mother. She enjoyed spending time with her large Italian family. Her first floor apartment was always occupied by a family member or close friend. There were many great times spent on Melbourne St. enjoying big dinners, cookouts, pool parties or just sitting in the yard. She loved to go to her sister’s camp on Watchic Lake. Many Sundays were spent with relatives playing cards, cooking and arguing like Italian families do. She enjoyed walking the Eastern Prom, watching the Red Sox with her son and grandson and going shopping with her daughter.
Emma is survived by her two children Craig and Krista Carrigan of Portland and two grandchildren Alex Floridino and Tatum Philbrook. She is also survived by her two sisters, Mary Derrig and Yola Noyes, 21 nieces and nephews; and too many great- nieces and nephews to count. She was predeceased by her parents; four sisters, Antoinette Joyce, Assunta Fuller, Adeline Quattrucci, Camilla Anderson, and two brothers, Frank Toppi and Rocco Toppi Jr.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Fallbrook Residential Care Facility for the excellent care they provided over the past two years and to Sol Amor Hospice for their care and compassion.
