Helen Louise Leighton, Harrington, Kemp

Helen Kemp passed away July 10, 2011 at Portland, Maine. Helen was born October 3, 1914 in Pembroke, Maine the third child of Isaac H. Leighton of Pembroke and Delphina L. Newman of Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada. Helen attended school in Pembroke and Portland, Maine. During her adulthood she was a homemaker. She was a terrific cook and enjoyed camping in a motor home spending many summers at Popham Beach Campground. Helen also loved to entertain having hosted many dinner parties. She enjoyed dancing in her younger years and had a great love for children.

She is predeceased by her first husband, William Frederick Harrington who died in 1954 in Hancock, Maine. Her second husband, James W. Kemp died in 2000 and a son, William Frederick Harrington, Jr. of Laramie, Wyoming passed away in 1981. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Inez who died in infancy and Minnie Askar who passed away in 2006. A special friend, Donald H. Joy also predeceased her.

Helen is survived by a son, Raymond Harrington and his wife Marie of Benton, Maine, a son, Donald Kemp and is wife Deborah of Lexington, North Carolina, a grandson, Jeffery Harrington and his wife Louise of Winslow, Maine, a grandson, Kenneth Harrington and his wife Susan of Spotsylvania, Virginia, also a grandson, James E. Kemp and his wife of Lexington, North Carolina, a granddaughter, Susan Kennedy and her husband Marlin who reside in Kooskia, Idaho, a granddaughter Jennifer McDonald and her husband Robert of Gorham, Maine. She also leaves behind several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren a daughter-in-law Betty Harrington of Laramie Wyoming as well as a foster granddaughter, Esther Lane and her family of Warren, Maine.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hart Rescue Shelter, Cumberland, Maine or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Jones-Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland, Maine. At Helen’s request there will be no visiting hours.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday July 13, 2011 at Brooklawn Memorial Park in South Portland, Maine.
