The son of David and Mary Anne (Csorosz) Dodge, John was born January 6, 1967 and grew up in Bath, Maine. A lifelong learner, John earned an associate’s degree in Marine Biology, a BS in Industrial Technology and went on to earn his Master of Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University in 2005. He worked at Bath Iron Works as a safety engineer from 1988 - 1998, and at Maine Employer’s Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC) since 2000 as the Director of Loss Control Services. He was a certified Safety Professional and a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
At MEMIC, he was considered a leader, a friend and a support to many. One colleague stated “I, personally, will miss his soft spoken ways, his determined spirit and the boyish grin he gave when he was happy with the outcome of something. He will always be remembered as a legend at MEMIC.”
John enjoyed life and had many interests. Recently he spent much of his free time “upta camp” in Chesterville, where he and his wife Sarah built the cabin of their dreams. You could find him there exploring the land with their dog Ruby, tending his garden, duck hunting with friends or fishing on Parker Pond. He also took time to explore the world and feed his interest for history with trips to Europe and Central America. A lover of music, he enjoyed playing the guitar and drums.
Whether at home or at work, John took care of everyone around him. At family functions, he was the first to volunteer for kitchen clean up. On Christmas Eve, he enjoyed building the excitement of the holiday by tracking Santa’s whereabouts with his niece and nephew. He took pride in maintaining a comfortable homestead for family and friends. He was selfless, loyal and kind.
John is survived by his wife Sarah; a step daughter, Jessica Goodwin; his parents David and Mary Anne Dodge, a sister Deborah Page and her husband Bob and their children Molly and Carter; and his grandfather Andrew Csorosz.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A celebration of John’s life will take place for family and friends at a later date.
