John T Hawes Sr.

Portland - John T. Hawes, Sr.,72, passed away peacefully in his home on December 27 2010. He was born on January 28, 1938 and lived for many years in the Bangor area before moving to Portland. He is survived by his brother, Frank Hawes of Jamestown, KY, and 3 children -- John Hawes, Jr. of Farmington, Kurt Hawes of Jay, and Kellee Greatorex-Hawes of Eddington, as well as 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He served in the US Navy as a young man, then went to work in the shoe shops. In his later years, he was employed as a prep cook in Portland. A very private person, he gained the respect and friendship of those he worked with and had contact with. A small, private family graveside service will be held in the spring. The family asks that donations be sent to Preble Street, c/o Development Department, PO Box 1459, Portland, ME 04104 in honor of John Hawes, Sr. Notes of condolence for the family can be sent to Jones, Rich, and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland, ME 04103, to the attention of the Hawes Family.
