Jonathan White, affectionately known to many as Big John, Whitey, or Dice, passed away on October 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born in Portland, Maine, and most recently residing in Westbrook, John lived his 34 years with a contagious zest for life and an unshakable spirit that brightened every room he entered.
A graduate of Cheverus High School and Maine Maritime Academy, John charted his own course through life—driven by curiosity, courage, and a heart as big as his presence. He was known for his quick wit, magnetic energy, and ability to connect with anyone he met. Whether through his booming laugh, spontaneous karaoke performances, or heartfelt conversations, John had a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved.
He was a man of deep respect and compassion, always treating others with kindness and dignity. John lived freely and authentically, often challenging the status quo and inspiring those around him to do the same. His passions ranged from travel and fitness to storytelling, music, and basketball—where he could effortlessly recall players, stats, and moments from every era. Above all, his greatest joy came from his relationships with his family, friends, and the many people fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his parents, James and Theresa White; his grandmother, Cynthia Chapman; his brothers, Matt White and wife Ahlya, and Nick White and wife Mariela Gonzalez; his beloved nieces Milanni and Juliette; and nephews Caleb and Jackson. He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory. His family takes comfort in knowing that his spirit and laughter will continue to echo through the lives he touched.
