Joseph Anthony Nappi Sr.

PORTLAND -- Joseph A. Nappi, Sr. 86, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Portland on Oct. 18,1925, the son of Pasquale and Carmella Ciccarone Nappi who were both born in the Naples, Italy area. He attended local schools and Portland High School. He served with the United States Marine Corp during WWII attaining the rank of corporal. Mr. Nappi was the owner of Mellen Street Market which is now operated by his sons, while still retaining the title of CEO. He was a member of the Italian Heritage Club, the Elks Club and a communicant of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He enjoyed family gatherings, telling stories, cruises, cooking, and creating extravagant Christmas dinners for his family.

He is survived by one daughter, Margaret Nappi Blain and her husband John of Scarborough, two sons, Anthony Nappi and his wife Donna of Cape Elizabeth, and Joseph Nappi, Jr., and his wife Ann (Fasulo) Nappi of Portland; grandchildren, Denise Blain, Kevin Blain and his wife Andrea, Erin Bouchard and her husband Eric, Joshua Nappi and his wife Meghan, Alyssa Nappi, Katie Nappi, C.J. Nappi, Danielle Sterling and her husband Tyler, Nathan Speckman and Stephen Speckman; great-grandchildren Sydney and Caroline Blain; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Nora, two brothers, Anthony and Joseph and five sisters, Caroline, Rose, Camilla, Teresa and Yolanda.

The family would also like to acknowledge three special friends, Barbara Pierce, Caesar Papi and Tony Caifia.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. from St. Pius X Catholic Church. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, So. Portland.
