

Portland- Joseph Augustine Ottati (Augie), 95, of Westbrook, Maine peacefully passed away on May 9, 2013 at the Barron center in Portland Maine with family and friends by his side after a long illness. The son of Francisco, and Benigna (Maes) Ottati, he was born in Trinidad, Colorado on October 28, 1917. He was a sergeant in the army from 1939 to 1941.Being the oldest of his siblings he was honorably discharged to help support his family after his father became ill and eventually died. He then was in the construction business mainly doing drywall and painting for more than forty years. He was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in California, Colorado & Portland, Maine. He was a faithful servant of his congregation and spread the good news to everyone with passion and conviction. He was also known for his great wit and charm and loved to make others laugh. He was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers in which he liked to be referred to as the “The last of the Mohicans” He was also predeceased by his beautiful young daughter Barbara in 1951. He is survived by his wife of 73 years Mary also of Westbrook, his daughter Diane Shane and her husband Richard of Westbrook, his grandson Patrick Shane and great granddaughters Andrea and Amber Shane all of Vinalhaven, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Augie and his family are very impressed and grateful for the care, compassion, professionalism and humor of the staff at the Barron Centre who made his final year and a half as much fun and comfortable as possible.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 18, 2013 at 5:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 355 Canco Rd. Portland.
