

Scarborough, Maine- Laurine Ann Scanlin Coggins, age 79 of Portland, passed away as a result of her fourth battle with cancer, on Monday July 31, 2017 at Gosnell Hospice House. She was born in Masardis, Maine on December 15, 1937 and grew up in Portland. Laurine is predeceased by her parents, Pauline Daigle Scanlin and Clarence R. Scanlin.
Laurine attended St. Dominic Elementary School and graduated high school from Cathedral in 1955. She furthered her education at St. Joseph’s College as a medical secretary with an associate degree in medical science in 1957. On April 4, 1959, Laurine wed Richard Coggins and were married for 18 years. Together they had 4 children, Richard, Peter, Kelly and Theresa.
While raising her children in Gorham, Laurine worked full time at the Reece Corporation and later Health Source of Maine. She had a natural ability to manage a career, be an advisor, cheerleader, taxi and foundation to her family and friends.
After retiring, Laurine worked part time with the Boys Scouts of America and volunteered with the Visiting Nurse Association. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Mercy Hospital, of the Women’s Fellowship of Our Lady of Hope and the Rita Rose Reading Society. Laurine’s favorite past-times were attending daily mass at Our Lady of Hope, going to her grandchildren’s sporting events, attending family gatherings and spending time with her “baby sister” Jean and brother in law Peter. Laurine’s humility and service to others has been her primary mission in life. She is an example of love, compassion, selflessness and acceptance.
Laurine is survived by her children Ricky and Charlotte Coggins, Peter Coggins and Martha LaBrecque, Kelly and Anthony Dell’Aquila, Terry and Eric Bickford. Grandchildren: Ryan, Joshua, Jeana, Kelcie, Peter, Samantha, Nikolas, Vinny, Sally, Anthony, Marlo, Monica, Taylor, Bailey & Jessica. Great Grandchildren: Ayden, Jaicey, Olivia, Jackson, Jolee, Jasper, Gavyn, Ella, Dawson. She is also survived by her loving sister Jean and brother in law Peter Scanlon and their children, Mark, Karen and Jennifer. She will be sadly missed by many close friends and their families. Words cannot express how she touched the hearts of so many.

Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday August 4, 2017 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine. Morning prayers will be recited Saturday August 5, 2017 at 9:00AM in the funeral home to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Catholic Church 2 Ocean Avenue Portland, Maine.
