Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Young

Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Young died Friday, August 7, 2015. She was born in Portland, August 7, 1932 a daughter of Everett and Sarah White O’Donald. She attended schools in Scarborough, graduating from Scarborough High School in 1951. She married Kenneth O. Young on September 17, 1960. Betty had worked for the New England Telephone Co. for 10 years. Following the birth of her first of three sons, she took 10 years off from working, returning when her youngest started school. She then worked in the Cape Elizabeth Middle School Cafeteria for 22 years, retiring in 1996. Betty enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, Kenneth O. “Sonny” Young Sr. of Cape Elizabeth, 3 sons, Kenneth O. Young Jr. of Cape Elizabeth, Stephen Young and his wife Leslie of Cape Elizabeth and Brian Young of Gorham, 3 grandchildren, Taylor Young, Sam Young and Danny Young, 3 sisters, Doris Mallory and Carolyn Spicer both of Lake Wales, Fl. and Eileen White of Biddeford. She was predeceased by sisters, Mary Nevers and Jane White.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 13 at 2pm in Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth. Pastor Jon Twitchell will officiate. A reception for Betty will follow from 4-7 PM at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of So. Maine and the many caregivers, for the wonderful care that was extended to Betty during the past 11 months.
