Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Fontaine, 92, of Falmouth, Maine, died December 1, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fontaine; daughter, Shirley Jean; parents, Katherine and Morris Gress,; brothers, Edmond and Louis; sisters, Evelyn and Helen; and grandson, Darren. Margaret was born in Portland, Maine, April 3, 1921. During World War II she was a shipyard welder. She married Charles in the Republic of Panama, where they raised their children. Margaret was an Isthmus Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and Catholic Women’s Club member. She relocated to Maine when widowed. Margaret worked in Porteous china department, retired and cared for many foster children. Margaret is survived by daughter Mary Katherine and son Charles; granddaughters Angela, Christine, Lisa and Melissa; grandsons Andrew, Eric and Joseph; sister, Ina; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A period of visitation will be held from 10am-11am at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland; where a funeral service will be held following visitation at 11:00am on Friday, December 13, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Maine Heart Association.
