

Falmouth - Norman A. LaVerriere passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2015 surrounded by family at the Gosnell House hospice facility in Scarborough, Maine. Norman was one of six children born to Arthur and Marguerite LaVerriere on February 11, 1934 in Biddeford, Maine. He attended Saint Louis High School where he graduated in 1953. Norman enlisted in the Army and served from 1955 to 1957. Upon returning from the service, he met his first wife Elizabeth "Dolly" Rumo. They were married on September 3, 1960. They eventually settled at 138 Middle Road in Falmouth, Maine where they raised two children, Donna and Joseph. After Dolly's passing in 1992, Norman was fortunate to merry a second time to Jean Corey on September 10, 1994. He lived the remainder of his life with Jean at their home in Falmouth, Maine.
Norman worked as a machinist for Reece Corporation in Gorham, Maine until he retired in 1992. Norman enjoyed being busy throughout his entire life. Work was truly his passion. Some of Norman's favorite pass times included swimming, woodworking, golfing and lending a helping hand to his many friends and neighbors. Norman was kind, a man of few words, and always the consummate gentleman. He was a devoted husband, the best father, and proud grandfather "Papa". Norman will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.
Norman is survived by his sister Marguerite Paquette of Biddeford, Maine; brother Beniot of Hartford, Connecticut; brother Philip of Biddeford, Maine; his second wife Jean; his daughter Donna Libby and her husband Dave of Falmouth, Maine; his son Joseph Laverriere and his wife Elizabeth "Liddy" of Portland, Maine; and three grandchildren, Joseph Laverriere, Brian Laverriere and Ryan Sweetser. Norman's extended family from his second marriage includes three step children, Lauren Corey of Portland, Maine; Stephen Corey of Gig Harbor, Washington, and David Corey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and six step grandchildren Owen, John, Josephine, Sam, Isaac, and Henry.
Norman is predeceased by his first loving wife Dolly, and sisters Prescille LaVerriere and Jacqueline Remillard of Biddeford, Maine.
The LaVerriere family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Gosnell House who provided loving and outstanding care for Norman during his final days.
Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Jones, Rich and Hutchins, 199 Woodfords Street, Portland, Maine. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church on Ocean Avenue in Portland, Maine at 10 am on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Online condolences can be given at www.jonesrichandhutchins.com.
