

South Portland – Persefone Chrissikos, 100, formerly of Settler Rd. S. Portland, died Saturday October 23, 2010 at the South Portland Nursing Home.
Born November 29, 1910 in Amfikleia Greece, she was the daughter of the late John and Lelouda Contas Tsitsipis.
She was educated in Greece and after she got married to Loucas Chrissikos, came to the United States in 1938. She helped her husband in the family restaurant business, the famous, “ Louis Restaurant” in Gorham. After her husband’s death in 1952, she ran the business until 1974. Both of her children, John and Eula, who graduated from Gorham State College, helped her at the restaurant.
After her retirement, she spent over 31,000 hours doing volunteer work for the Brunswick Navy Base knitting baby outfits. She received many awards from the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society plus the Governor’s Award for her volunteer work.
She was a very faithful and generous member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland.
She spent countless hours at the festivals and every activity of the Church. For her dedication to the Greek Church she was honored by the Holy Trinity Church and by the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston.
She was also a member of Holy Trinity Philoptochos Society, member of the Daughters of Penelope and a member of the Eastern Star.
Besides her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her two children, John and Eula Chrissikos. She is survived by her granddaughter, Maria Kelly and her husband David and her grandson, Loucas Chrissikos both of Florida.
She spent her last four years at the South Portland Nursing Home, where she had excellent care and her family and friends are very thankful to all the nurses and caregivers. Strong in her faith, a loving mother and grandmother and a faithful friend, Persefone will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Tuesday October 26, 2010 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, the Trisagion will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 11 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 133 Pleasant St. Portland.
Interment will be in Forest City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or the Holy Trinity Emergency Relief Fund.
