Peter grew up in Falmouth where he collected many lifelong friends. He was a hardworking man who took pride in doing the very best job possible. At the age of 12 he told his father he was bored during the summer. As a result, he found himself with his first fulltime job on the Zacharias farm inoculating chickens, haying, and strawberry picking. He spent other summers as a groundskeeper, landscaping Estates on Cumberland Foreside. He then worked for Bankcroft and Martin in the Steel Mill, and spent 15 years at American Can while earning his Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Pete went on to work at Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1974. During that time he earned his MBA Degree at USM and grew through the ranks of Senior Auditor to Vice President of Government Programs.
Pete was truly a unique man, filled with genuine kindness that touched the hearts of all whom he knew. He valued spending time with his family and his many good friends. Pete also enjoyed spending time at camp on Long Lake in Naples where he liked to garden, read, visit with his neighbors, and in recent years he learned to Kayak.
Pete enjoyed volunteer work at the Preble street soup kitchen, and took joy in visiting the Barbara Bush Children's Center delivering baskets full of stuffed animals for the children.
Baseball was a passion of Pete's. He played as young man on the Twilight League along with players who were drafted to play in the majors. He was quite an athlete, playing competitive basketball as well as enjoying his love of baseball.
Along with his parents he was predeceased by his Aunt Wilma and Uncle Sydney Babb, and his first wife Irene Brown whom passed away in 2002.
Pete will be missed greatly by his wife Sharon Brown of Portland, his daughter Patti Brown of Portland, his step daughter Sarah Shaw of Boston, many extended in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be missed by his wide circle of very special friends.
Goodbye Pete Brown and thank you for touching all of our hearts.
