

Portland- Richard (Gil) A. Gilpatrick, 83, longtime resident of Portland, died April 10, 2014 at the Barron Center in Portland. Mr. Gilpatrick was born on November 23, 1930, in Stoneham, MA, a son of Lionel and Ethel (Strout) Gilpatrick. He was a graduate of Deering High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and became a Medical Corpsman, serving on the Destroyer U.S.S. Ingraham.
After his enlistment, he began working for Food Enterprises of Watertown, MA, where he worked for five years. He then went to work for the Kendall Company, covering the State of Maine, selling surgical supplies.
He was pre-deceased by a brother, Lionel Gilpatrick, and a sister, Arlene Sabasteanski.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 ½ years, Elaine (Vigue) Gilpatrick of Portland; daughter, Wendy Torrey of Sanford; granddaughter, Jessica Miller of South Paris; sister, Jean E. Gilpatrick of Portland.
A visiting hour will be held from 12-1 pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, where a funeral will follow at 1 pm. The Reverend Deborah Davis-Johnson will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
