

Portland- Robert F. Michaud, 78, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side on October 9, 2013 at Mercy hospital, after a long and hard fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease and congestive heart failure.
The son of Fernand Robert, and Lugri (Colello) Michaud, Bob was born on May 12, 1935 in Portland.
Raised in the “Little Italy” section of Portland, he attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School class of 1953. After graduation, he worked at Farrar-Brown Auto Parts, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. On August 8 ,1955 he married Patricia (Curtis) Michaud. Bob and Pat lived wherever his assignments sent him, raising a son and daughter. After serving 20 years in the military, and serving two tours in Vietnam, Bob retired and began a career working as a bookkeeper for several local businesses. Bob was also a long time friend of Bill W, offering his sponsorship to those in need, and answering calls at any time of day or night to offer his support. Bob was a proud member of the Naval Fleet Reserve, and a Golden Eagle member of Westbrook Aerie 2977, where he served as treasurer. Bob enjoyed his many games of pool with his friends at the Eagles club, and was known as a very good player. Bob made many friends in his long life, and would do anything for anybody. After the death of his wife, Bob retired to spend 12 enjoyable years at the Eagle Village retirement community in Bradenton, Florida
Bob was predeceased by his parents, and his wife Patricia, who passed on January 2, 1997, and his brother Joseph.
He is survived by his son Joseph and his wife Kathleen of Westbrook, daughter, Karen of Westbrook, two brothers Peter of Virginia, and Raymond of Portland, and a sister Michele and her husband Joe of Portland. Bob is also survived by grandchildren Jessica Michaud of Portland and Jeffrey, and his fiancée Ashlee Blastow, of Westbrook, as well as great grandchildren Sebastiean and Pierce. The family would like to thank the staff at Casco Village Assisted Living, with special attention, at Bob’s request, to Biny, Heather, and Katie, for the loving care they gave him during his year under their care. Also special thanks to our nurse, Sue, at Mercy Hospital’s 4th floor, for her compassionate care, and Pastor Pat for her prayers. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Tuesday October 15, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday October 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal St. Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. A reception will follow at the Eagles Club in Westbrook. Prayer will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday before Mass at 9:15 AM.
