Robert J. Ridge, Sr.

Portland, ME -- Robert J Ridge, Sr. 82, of Chamberlain Avenue died Friday at a local hospital.

He was born in Portland, a son of James J. Ridge, Sr. and Mary (Curran) Ridge, attended local parochial schools and graduated valedictorian from Cheverus High School in 1945. He was a 1948 graduate of St. Anselm College, in Manchester, NH. He also attended St. Louis University School of Medicine.

On September 24, 1955, he married Mary T. Coyne.

Mr. Ridge retired from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department in 1994.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Robert is predeceased by his wife, Mary. Surviving are two daughters, Mary T. Ridge of Portland, and Margaret R. “Peggy” Buckley, and her husband Kevin, of Scarborough; a son, Robert J. Ridge, and his wife Lesley, of Portland; and five grandchildren, Mariah, Kristen, and Tara Buckley, and Brittany and Bobby Ridge.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. Prayers will be recited on March 3, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1342 Congress Street, Portland.

Interment will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
