He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Dolores (Rumo) Talbot; his daughter Deb DiRusso and her husband Jeff of Pelham, NH; his son Steve and his wife Sheila of Windham, ME; his son Bob and his wife Kim of East Hampton, CT; his daughter Kelly Collins and her fiancé Dan Meyer of Falmouth, ME; his 6 grandchildren: Olivia, Morgan, Andrew, Ashley, Lauren and Alyssa; his great grandchild, Landon; his siblings Maryanne, Joyce, Jimmy, Lorraine, Shirley, Deanna; extended family and close friends.
Bob was a beloved husband, father, “papa,” son, brother and friend. He will be best remembered for his kind heart and love of family. Throughout his life, Bob built long-lasting and cherished relationships. He was known for his easy going personality, quick wit and dry humor; “when Bob spoke, everyone listened.”
He was born February 16, 1940 in Portland Maine, the son of James and Hazel Talbot. Bob graduated from Cheverus High School in 1958 and was married on January 16, 1960 to Dolores Rumo.
In 1971 Bob & Dolores moved to their family home in North Deering where they raised their 4 children. It was at this home, they created many fond memories that are still talked about today.
Bob obtained his electricians license in 1962 and worked as a master electrician for E.S. Boulos before starting his own business, RJ Talbot Electrical, in 1978. In 1993 Bob and his brother Jim started their real estate development company, T & T Development, and have developed numerous properties throughout southern Maine.
During his retirement years, Bob & Dolores were able to travel extensively in the United States and abroad with their beloved eldest daughter, Deb and her husband, Jeff. They were able to enjoy watching their grandchildren’s extracurricular activities and sporting events.
Bob & Dolores reside in Sarasota, FL at the Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club for 10 months of the year, where they entertain their friends, relax by the pool and play golf several times a week. Bob was often told how much he looked like Arnold Palmer, “but didn’t exactly play like him.” They always had an open-door policy for family members to visit them in Florida.
Bob and Dolores spent the summer months at their home on Highland Lake in Maine where they enjoyed reading, golfing with friends, and spending time with family. The highlight of each summer was the annual family reunion.
The family would like to invite you to visiting hours on Thursday January 19th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St, Portland. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Friday January 20th at 11:00am, 492 Ocean Ave, Portland followed by a committal service at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
In lieu of flowers, please make a loving donation in Bob’s memory to the Sisters of the Precious Blood, 166 State Street, Portland, ME 04101.
