

Westbrook-Ruth L. Matson, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 21, 2010.
She was born the youngest of five children in Sanford, Maine on August 15, 1924, the daughter of Edward and Minnie (Knights) Owen. Ruth was predeceased by her biological parents when she was seven years old. She was also predeceased by her siblings and adoptive parents, William V. and Etta (Henderson) Gorman. Ruth was a graduate of Portland High School in 1943.
Ruth was a resident of Westbrook for over 47 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Portland where she was a Deaconess and general Secretary of the Sunday School. For several years she held Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) Bible Clubs in her home. She enjoyed being an Avon representative for over 40 years.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Conrad Matson, whom she married on February 22, 1946, and her daughter, Sheila Dudley and husband Clint. Also surviving are her three grandchildren; Brian Dudley, his wife Ruthie, and their daughter Abigail of Atlanta, GA; Glen Dudley, his wife Lisa, and their children Noah, Maren, Nathan, and Benjamin of Plymouth, MA; and Julie Dudley of Westbrook, ME. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 99 Woodford Street. Private interment will be in Flanders Cemetery, Buxton in the spring.
