Stephen C. White - Dobson

Stephen was born on June 24, 1956 and was a graduate of Portland High School in 1975.

Stephen had a passion for operating heavy equipment and playing in the dirt, which he did for many years. He would often reflect back to his time working at Maietta Construction, always speaking fondly of big Lou. He was always a very hard worker and for the past several years enjoyed going to work each day for the city of Portland Public Works Division, where he was also a Shop Stewart.

Family was most important to Steve. He loved to gather, tell stories and solve all the world’s problems, especially with his two brothers who were his best friends. Often times he would reminisce of earlier camping years at Cow Island and share some of his favorite adventures. At family gatherings you could always find Steve” sharpening the knives” as he was designated for assignment on carving the turkey or slicing the ham during the holidays, it was tradition and he owned it! On any given Sunday you could run into Steve at Botto’s Bakery as he enjoyed sharing their bread and his legs, regardless of the weather (never giving up the shorts). He loved the water and the thrill of scuba diving.

Stephen was very proud of his son when he followed his dad’s footsteps and joined the military. Stephen would write to his son almost every day while he was away at boot camp, something his son looked forward to.

Stephen was a member of the AMVETS post 25 and the American Legion Post 161. Steve was well known for his huge heart and always gave to a number of charities – he was a big lovable teddy bear.

Steve was predeceased by his parents Stan & Loretta Dobson and Grandmother Eileen Labbe. He is survived by his wife Patty, children Stephen, Donna and Kiersten, as well as 5 step children, 15 step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Sisters Loreen and husband Steve Marchant, Barbara and husband Mike Drouin, brothers Shane Dobson & sister in law Lisa, Stan Dobson and sister in law Kim and his cherished grandchildren, Dakota, Nathan ,Liberty, Dana, Tarsha, Damien and Aiden.

A period of visitation for Stephen and his family will be held this Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Jones, Rich, & Hutchins Funeral home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, ME; where funeral service’s will be held following visitation at 2:00 pm.
