Portland- Theresa M. Faherty, 81, of Pennell Avenue, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2015 at Mercy Hospital.
She was born in Notre Dame de Lourdes, New Brunswick, Canada on May 16, 1933, a daughter of Abel and Esther (Cyr) Thibodeau.
As a young woman, she joined the work force at Madawaska Weavers. A couple of years later, she took her skills in the textile industry and moved to Lewiston where she found work in the shoe manufacturing business. It was there that she met her future husband Robert Faherty. They were married in Lewiston in June of 1968. Soon after, they bought a house in Portland and in 1970, Theresa gave birth to their son Wayne.
Theresa was very proud to be somewhat of a pioneer in the childcare business. She started a daycare in her home in Portland in the 1970’s which she operated for a number of years. She thoroughly loved caring for the many, many children who were entrusted to her and cared deeply about each and every one of them.
She had a great love of nature, especially birds, spending hours in her backyard enjoying her bird houses and bird feeders which she proudly displayed.
Theresa had two beloved pets in her life. Her Corgi dog, Peanut, was very precious to her and Buffy, her mixed breed fur ball brought her years of joy.
The aura of innocence that Theresa possessed had a calming effect on all who had the pleasure to be in her company. She was truly a uniquely beautiful human being.
Theresa was pre-deceased by her husband of 38 years, Robert Faherty and her brother Reginald Thibodeau of New Brunswick.
She is survived by her beloved son, Wayne D. Faherty of Portland, Maine; brothers, Laureat Thibodeau and his wife Alida, Gilles Thibodeau and his wife Barbara, Clarence Thibodeau and his wife Vivian; sisters, Ann Plourde and her husband Dollar, Greta Oulette , all of Canada.
