Vartoohie was born in Portland on October 3, 1921; the daughter of the late Kevork and Ethel (Marston) DerArsenian. She attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School with the class of 1939. For a brief time Vartoohie worked at the Central Yarn Shop, however she was happiest when she was a t home caring for her family.
Vartoohie is predeceased by her husband’s John Stone and George Wood, three sons, Robert H., John F. and Timothy G. Stone.
Surviving is a daughter Cynthia Wintle and her husband Gregory of Portland; five grandchildren, Jack, Jill, Andrea, Kristin, Timothy, and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Keaghan.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers the Wood family suggests memorials be made in Vartoohie’s name to the Armenian Tree Project at www.armeniatree.org.
Care for the Wood family has been entrusted to the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home of Portland.
