

Vera Sayers Luther, 97 passed away peacefully on Saturday January 8, 2011 in Gorham. Vera was born in East Concord, VT on March 24, 1913, the daughter of Katherine and Fred Sayers. She relocated to Maine in 1942 where she did her apprenticeship for Beautician at Eastland Hotel. Vera was an accomplished Beautician and owned and operated Red Bank Beauty Salon from 1954 until she was forced to retire after suffering a stroke in 2004.
Vera enjoyed teaching Sunday school, Bible Studies, Knitting; cooking and she loved her cats.
Besides her parents, Vera was predeceased by her husband Howard Luther in 1992, her daughter Muriel in 1997, and her daughter Patricia Penney in 2004.
She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Libbey of Buxton, ME, 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on March 16th at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A committal service will take place in Forest City Cemetery, So. Portland at a date to be announced in the spring.
Due to Vera’s love of animals, Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals, 279 River Road, So. Windham, ME 04062
