

PORTLAND-Verna “Bunny" Mitchell-Dobson, 96 passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2015 in Portland, Maine. Verna was born in Long Island Plantation, Frenchboro, Maine on May 20, 1919, to Charles and Jennie Mitchell (deceased). She graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1937. She continued her education at Erskine Academy (1939) and Eastern State Teachers’ College graduating in 1941, furthering her education taking summer courses at the University of Maine in Orono and Portland graduating with her master’s degree 1952. After teaching for 38 years in Gorham, Portland, Westbrook, and one year in Cliff Island, Bunny decided to retire.
On January 1, 1981 Bunny married Gordon Dobson, Sr. of South Portland. They spent 23 years together enjoying retirement spending six months in Eustis, Florida and six months in Frenchboro before Gordon's death in 2004. Bunny was a life time member of Eastern Star and was an award winning gardener of Roses.
She was predeceased by her sister Genevieve Osier, brothers John, Ronald and Herbert Mitchell. She is survived by niece Janice Smith and her husband Steve, nephews Charles Mitchell and wife Cathy, Kenneth Osier, Donald Osier, Ronald Mitchell, Jr, and wife Susan, and their children. She is also survived by extended family G. Rick Dobson and wife Diane, Marlene Merriman and husband Jack, Judi Bernardi and husband Ron and Loretta Coughlin, and their children.
Her family would like to acknowledge the staff of Fallbrook Woods Residential Care for their support and loving care to Bunny.
