

Falmouth – Virginia H. “Ginnie” (Haines) Charlton, 92, of Falmouth died on Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Falmouth by the Sea. She was the wife of the late Robert Charlton who died in November 1992.
She was born in Portland on May 3, 1918 a daughter of the late Leon and Ruth (Tucker) Haines Sr. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School. She then attended and graduated from Westbrook College.
She retired from the Maine Medical Center Cardiac Catherization Lab where she worked as a Medical Technician.
Ginnie was a founding member of the Lyric Theatre and a member of the Portland Players, where she played opposite her own husband in their production of “On Golden Pond.” She was also an active member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Portland as well as a member of the Women’s Literary Union and the YWCA. Even into her eighties, Ginnie was an animal lover and was often seen walking her Dalmatian at Evergreen Cemetery. She was an avid traveler and even enjoyed numerous flights with her husband piloting his small airplane.
She is survived by four nephews, including, Sam Haines and his wife Deb of Syracuse, NY, Steve Haines of Lunenburg, MA, Jeff Haines of Dudley, MA, and Jon Haines and his wife Marcia of Belmont, MA. She also leaves two nieces Debbie Bloomstein and her husband Phil of Freedom, ME, Donna Haines and her husband Phil Jones of Brewster, MA, as well as several great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by niece Leslie Schwartz and nephew Chuck Elliot. Her love will be greatly missed by Dick and Ed. She was also the mother of the late Susan Charlton, who died in September 1992 and the sister of the late Leon Haines Jr. and Samuel Haines.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 678 Washington Ave, Portland.
