

Gorham – Virginia “Ginie” Louise Tinker, 89 passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011 after a several year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on July 10, 1922 to the late Arthur and Florence (Brown) Tinker.
Ginie grew up in Portland and graduated from Portland High School in 1939. Continuing her education she graduated from Gorham State Teachers College and taught for a short time before changing careers to work for New England Telephone and Telegraph. During her time there she achieved high standards and recognition for a woman in the 1940’s; because of her success she was promoted to an executive in her department.
During WWII, she took the train from Portland, ME to San Francisco, CA to help set up communications on the Pacific Coast after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. During the sixties she was on loan from New England Telephone and went on to be the director for J.O.B.S on the east coast introducing handicapped people in the work force. During that time she spent several years transferring from her offices in Portland, Boston and New York City.
She is predeceased by her brother, A. Lloyd Tinker.
She is survived by her niece, Cynthia Tinker Wormell and her husband Peter; nephews, Jeffrey L. Wormell and Peter Wormell, Jr. and his wife Heather.
Services will be private.
