She attended Ockley Green Grade School, graduated from Jefferson High School, spent two years at Oregon State & then finished at Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, OR. After finishing her studies, she began her travels by moving to Germany. She started in Germany by teaching elementary school for 2 years for the children of US military members stationed abroad. From there, she moved to New York and taught in a school for 4 years. After The Big Apple, she returned to Portland and began teaching in the Reynolds School District. Within the district, Alice was a specialist in a reading program which helped many students to succeed in their future careers and life paths.
Europe (Denmark, Germany, Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, France, Spain, England & Italy), Asia (Thailand, mainland China, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Japan & South Korea), Mexico and South Africa were some of her favorite places to travel to and tour. She greatly enjoyed her annual beach trips with a few of her long time school friends. Alice stayed closer to home the last couple of years because of her health, however family gatherings were special to her and always good opportunities for her to get out of the house.
She was a long time member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed being with the “Knit Whits”. Weaving became a special interest of hers. Alice made many rugs, placemats, scarves and pillows on her personal loom at her home in Portland. Most of her family have these works of art crafted by her adorning their homes.
Ken and his wife Marilee, their daughters Jill and Beth, and Alice's nephew Rory (Jill's son) enjoyed many family gatherings with Alice.
