Mom was born on a 100-acre farm where she recalled sitting in a peanut patch, eating fresh from the ground after her grandpapa had plowed the peanuts from under the ground. Mom would drink fresh water from the well and milk from the cows. She ran and played freely in nature on the land that her family owned.
When mom was 6 years old, her mother passed away, so she and two siblings would have to live with Grandma Pearly in Monticello, Arkansas while her eldest brother Arthur Ford (who precedes her) would live with his father’s family. When mom was 8 years old, Grandma Pearly passed away, she, her sister Hazel Blanton and brother Joe Trotter would have to travel to Portland, Oregon to live with their father, JP Trotter his wife, Margaret, and their son Lamar Trotter (both precede her).
Mom graduated from Jefferson high school in 1964, she enjoyed Home Economics, she would help to prepare and cook meals at home and in restaurants. In her twenties, mom became USDA Trained and able to approve nutritious meals for children in elementary schools. Leading to 48 years of food preparation.
Mom had 4 children, Arya Garvey, Benin Trotter, Doug Johnson and Manifest Intity when she met her husband, Lee Davis Fleming Sr in Portland, Oregon in 1972.
Mom was in the Baptist Church ushering and serving, dad was in the Pentecostal church volunteering and serving while working with his father, then they would meet, fell in love and served in Ministry and sang in the choir @ Faith Tabernacle Church for more than 30 years; she would volunteer with many lovely church families of the Body of Christ in Portland, and complete her time for more than 15 years in Ministry as Senior Mother in Ministry at Life Restoration Center Church.
Two years later, Mom and Dad would marry, have 7 more children, Dwyane Fleming Sr, Rachel Hestmark, Phoebe Fleming, Enoch Fleming, Naomi Perkins, Esther Broussard and Lee Fleming Jr.
Mom was a powerful woman of God! We knew we had a praying mother covering us all even when we knew we didn’t want her to know what we were doing, God knew, and mom prayed. She kept instructing us to pray as well, we needed to know, she said often.
Dad would say when he met mom, he met his dream girl, they were married for 50 years and walked together in life caring for their family, serving the church, and community while making a difference in a lot of people’s lives, here in America and abroad as they traveled together.
They pastored together at Bride of Christ Ministry where they specialized in senior ministry at Senior Care facilities for 30+ years. They would serve in ministry together until she was unable due to her health at the end of her life, her and dad would have home Bible study regularly reminding her the goodness of God for their life.
Mom released two single CDs “I have no lack” and “Gods Precious Jewel”, she would author her first book, “God’s Natural Medicine” when she was 74 years old and her second book, “Edible Flowers” a part 2 of Gods Natural medicine when she was 78 years old that is now in publishing due to be released in early 2025. She learned from 50 years studying the Word of God on His healthy eating habits. She said, “I wrote the books because I want people to learn what they are eating in order to live healthier lives.”
When you ask anyone, what mom has done for them, they would say, “she taught me about how to eat healthy foods, how to pray, read the Word of God, walk in His obedience and Trust His plan.”
Dad asked mom as her health was fading, “we never been here before?” She would answer, “no we haven’t.” We have been privileged to know such a formidable daughter, wife, mother, woman, sister, leader, grandma, aunt, great grandma, community leader, mother in ministry and friend.
Mom leaves behind her brother Joe, sister Hazel, her husband Lee, all her 11 children, 34 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a host of nieces & nephews along with many spiritual children and siblings that will miss her beauty, knowledge and radiance.
Mom is the best mom anyone could ask for. She taught her children to pray, play instruments in a family band called the Hallelujah Band, she taught us how to play by ear and when we were in middle school, she enrolled us in band to learn to read the music and we would travel to various churches and senior homes playing gospel music. We learned how to eat well, be good parents and outstanding individuals.
She influenced many as she volunteered with the Women’s Federation for World Peace with dad, they would host many international students in their home for decades, foster children would be blessed as they would care for them and the Church community will be blessed for her gracious spirit and willingness to help where she was needed.
Mom will always be missed, she is an amazing spirit that now rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We will never forget her as she is always in our hearts and our minds.
Mom, we love you always and will miss your smile, laughter, and gentleness.
Your Loving Family
