

Ava was born in Hopkins County, Kentucky on August 11, 1922 to Welby Bea Ray and Mary Florida Galloway and was raised in Madisonville along with her siblings: James, Martha, Welby, Talmage and Janice. Preceding her in death were her parents, four of her five siblings, her husband and a daughter.
Ava married Eugene Whittle Hill April 7, 1944 in Portland Oregon; the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS temple May 16, 1944 prior to her husband’s overseas duty during WW II. Ava and Gene settled in northeast Portland in 1951 where they raised their five children: Patrice, Michael, Jonathan, Janice and Diane. Ava had twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren as well as numerous extended relatives.
Ava was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different positions. She was an enthusiastic homemaker with talents in sewing, knitting, tatting, calligraphy and other creative pursuits. She was an avid reader and was devoted to her family and friends.
A memorial service for Ava will be held at 10:00 a.m. June 4, 2016 at the LDS chapel located at 5580 SE Golden Road, Hillsboro, Oregon with a private interment at Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park.
