

Patricia (Bessie) Anne Payne Peerson, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on May 23, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. Born on July 14, 1938, in Dermott, Arkansas, Patricia was a vibrant spirit who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Patricia was the cherished daughter of Sallie and Oscar Payne, and she grew up surrounded by the warmth of her large family.
Patricia's dedication to her education was evident as she attended Madera High School, Central Oregon Community College, and Linn Benton Community College, where she pursued her passion for nursing. Her career saw her serve at Mountain View Hospital, Warm Springs Health Service, and the Red Cross of Portland, with a special fondness for Obstetrics.
Active in her community, Patricia was a proud member of the Maranatha Church of God and participated in the Women's group, where she formed lasting friendships and shared her faith. Her hospitable nature extended beyond the church walls, as she welcomed friends and family into her home.
In her leisure time, Patricia enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, from gardening and fishing to playing volleyball and softball. She was particularly fond of walking along the beach in Seaside. Cooking was another passion, and she loved to share her culinary creations with loved ones, bringing people together around the dinner table.
Patricia will be remembered for her friendly demeanor, strong sense of loyalty, and unwavering hospitality. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and loved, fostering connections that will last for generations.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, as will as her brothers: Sam, James, Larry, Geroge, and Virgil Payne and step-son, Jonathan Peterson.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Edward Paterson, and her beloved children, Cynthia Fortson and Wiley Fortson. Two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and step-daughter. Patricia also leaves behind her brothers Thoedore, Chester, John, Bee, and Jerry Payne, who will forever remember her as a fiercely loyal and competitive sister, full of life and love.
