

Surrounded by her family, Beth Haglund passed away peacefully on October 29 at the age of 85. Born in Bessemer, Michigan in 1927, Beth was raised primarily in Superior, Wisconsin. She graduated in 1950 from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota with a BS degree in nursing education. Beth then moved to Oregon where she started work as a surgical nurse for Providence Portland Medical Center and married Herb Haglund on her 23rd birthday in Portland on October 18, 1950. In 1952, she left nursing to start a family and she and Herb were eventually blessed with five sons and one daughter. Devoted to her family, Beth was a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was a creative cook, an accomplished knitter and seamstress and a great organizer of family outdoor activities. A member of All Saints Parish for nearly 50 years, Beth was a volunteer at the grade school and an active member of the Altar Society. She devoted over 25 years as a volunteer to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and served as its first woman president from 1983-86. Beth is survived by her husband Herb, her six children, Michael (Melissa) of Portland, Jeffrey of Bethel, Alaska, Peter (Brian) of Happy Valley, Janet Rathbone (Scott) of Portland, David (Cindy) of Clackamas and Thomas (Elizabeth) of Gilroy, California, 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be celebrated at All Saints Church on November 5 at 11:00 a.m., preceded by a Rosary at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Alzheimer's Association
