Betty Ruth Bachofner

Betty Ruth Bachofner of Portland, Oregon went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the age of 91. Betty was born on March 28, 1930, in Portland, Oregon to Delos Charles Pierce and Jessie Ann Miller. She grew up in Portland and graduated from Washington High School in 1948. She attended Oregon State for one term and decided that college was not for her.

She met her husband Mervin Gus Bachofner at Hinson Baptist Church in Portland, Oregon and they were married on August 18, 1950. One short year later Betty and Merv started their family with the arrival of Jeff in 1951. Their second son Mark arrived in 1952, followed by a daughter Jeanne in 1956, a third son Rick in 1958 and the fourth son and last child Bill in 1960. Betty was a warm and caring mother who loved to be around her family.

Betty started attending Hinson Baptist Church when she was in High School, she was married at the church and raised her children in the church. She was a devout believer and always prayed for her children and their families.

She enjoyed making Raggedy Ann dolls and clothes, custom lamp shades, comforters and hand embroidered items. She loved to do jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and bird watching. She enjoyed going to the beach and collecting rocks and during her earlier years with the family enjoyed camping. Every Christmas she would always bake a ton of different cookies and enjoyed watching her kids devour them. Betty and Merv enjoyed traveling throughout the United State and taking multiple trips to Alaska. They enjoyed their time share on Kauai, and in 2000 took all the kids and their families to the Islands for a great vacation. Later in life Betty and Merv spent months at Sky Valley near Palms Springs, California each year. Her husband Merv passed away in 2005 and 10 years later Betty sold her home and moved into a Senior Retirement facility. She always enjoyed being around the grandkids and her children. She especially like to hold the grandchildren when they were babies.

Betty is survived by her sons Jeff Bachofner of Tigard, OR, Mark Bachofner of Washougal, WA, Rick Bachofner of Mosier, OR, Bill Bachofner of Hubbard, OR, her daughter Jeanne Hoerr of Milwaukie, OR, seven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

A service will be held at 9:30am, August 24, 2021, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
