In her youth she would live in several logging camps surviving a horrific forest fire in one.
She grew up an only child, but was close to her male cousins who, as kids will do, picked on her so, she learned how to box, apparently well, because the 'picking on' stopped.
Betty attended Pacific University, went on to nurses training. She built ships during WWII. Her nursing career was, in the grand scheme fairly short.
In 1952 she married Glenn Dawson (she called him Gene) and had a son Michael Eugene, in 1954 Gregory Paul was born. In 1959 William James came along.
In the late 50's she went to work for Tektronix for a brief period, then for health reasons, she and the boys along with her mother Lucille Hall, went to Phoenix Arizona and Betty went to work for Motorola for a year.
At the end of the year, her health had improved, she went back to Oregon and eventually back to Tektronix. She worked off and on for Tektronix until she retired. This was back in the days when Tektronix was changing the world. It was an amazing time.
Time passed, Betty and Glenn divorced, the boys grew up eventually Betty reunited with an old school chum Edward J. Upton. Ed was a widower, retired and was looking for someone to live out the rest of his days with just enjoying what life had to offer. They married.
When Ed passed away, Betty made the decision to move to Arizona permanently and enjoy the warmer climate. She moved to Mesa and one house away from another old school chum, Dorothy "Dode" Mays and her husband Howard. They had several years of fun together, helping each other and playing Poker.
At about the same time they all came to the conclusion that they should be somewhere that was a little more conducive to the life of a Senior Citizen. Instead of moving to the same complex that Howard and Dode moved to, Betty found the Courtyard Towers facility in Mesa Arizona a little more appealing. They have some of the nicest and most caring people ever.
Betty passed away in her home at the Courtyard Towers on May 9, 2014. She was very peaceful as she passed. She was loved, she will be missed.
