Bev passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, due to natural causes. She was born in Hartford Connecticut to Lennia and Charles White and later moved to Tampa Florida to complete High School at Plant High. During her High School years she enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader, sailing with the Davis Island Yacht Club, and working as a florist. Bev married John (Jack) Joseph Snyder on July 2, 1953.
They enjoyed many shared activities through their 61 years together including camping, gardening, square dancing, crafting, car racing and supporting the sport activities of their two children. The activities took them all to many places for Donn’s hockey games, and Lennia’s figure skating competitions throughout the Pacific Coast and Canada. When at home, Bev enjoyed ceramics, sewing, and crafts all with the purpose of managing her own business to teach others or to sell her many creations. Bev made skating dresses for many years to support the expenses of the kids’ sports and her dresses became well known in Oregon and Idaho. During this time, Jack became a regional expert in skate sharpening and sharpened thousands of hockey and figure skates. His dedication to skating was shared by Bev as she became interested in costuming for the ice shows and competitions. Their support of the Portland Ice Skating Club continued much after Lennia grew up and had moved to Idaho, and brought Bev and Jack many accolades from the Club so much so that the PISC created a Memorial Fund for skaters to help pay for testing fees. Bev helped create the fund and then oversaw the distributions of funds for many years. She also made craft items to sell at events to donate into the fund. It was a great joy for Bev to support skaters, and the fund still benefits many skaters today.
After the kids were grown, Jack and Donn uncovered and revived his 1930 Ford roadster and Bev and Jack went racing with the West Coast Vintage Racers and Northwest Vintage Speedsters for many years, traveling throughout Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. In 1978 Jack and Bev purchased a Summer Home on Diamond Lake, OR, and enjoyed many years of family trips in summer and winter where snowmobiling was a fun activity for both. In 2008 Bev began her interest in vintage clothing to support the antique cars owned by Donn & Ladorna and the vintage roadster they owned. This started her love for making hats. She made more than 20 vintage styled and floral hats until she moved to The Springs. Once at The Springs, Bev enjoyed wearing a different fancy hat each day.
Bev lost the love of her life when Jack passed in October of 2014. Bev continued living in their shared home in Portland up until 2020 when she moved to the Glenmore Retirement Community. She enjoyed her craft activities once there, continuing to make many floral or sewn items, and contributing to the holiday decorations for the apartments. Bev later moved to The Springs in Happy Valley where she resided until her death. Bev unfortunately was afflicted with dementia, yet she enjoyed her time at The Springs with activities and crafts up until only a few months before her passing.
Bev is survived by her two children Donn and Lennia, their spouses Ladorna and Gary, and two grandchildren Lindsay and J.C., their spouses Zach and Kendra, and three great grandchildren Ellery, Kayden and Charlie, as well as 6 stepchildren and their spouses, 21 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a dear family friend and adopted daughter, Linda Sumner, daughter Krystle and husband Nick, and grandchildren Reid and Claire.
At this time Bev will be laid to rest at the Lincoln Memorial Park alongside Jack. Instead of sending flowers, please consider a gift in Bev’s honor to the Portland Ice Skating Club’s Jack Snyder Memorial Fund at https://www.pisc.org/jack-snyder-memorial-fund.
