

He was born July 11, 1925 in Vesta, Arkansas to Bea Florence and Alice Scottie (King) Bonner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian R.; son, Samuel E.; daughter, Christy L. (Dennis) Hillen; and sisters, Peggy A. Stanton and Laura E. Barger.
Carl grew up in Charleston, Arkansas where he graduated from Charleston High School, class of 1943. From 1943 to 1947 he served in the Army Air Force as a Flight Officer, civil service in clerical and administrative positions, director of a medical record unit, and Ordinance supply unit for South Korea.
In 1951, he graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS. In 1955, he graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine with an M.D. with specialty in psychiatry.
In 1956, he interned at the Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. Then in 1959, he completed his residency at the Menninger School of Psychiatry/ V.A. Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas. From 1959 to 1962, he worked at V.A.M.C. in Roseburg, OR as a staff physician.
In 1962, he and Lillian moved to Beaverton, OR where he went into private practice psychiatry and raised their four children until 1975.
They then moved back to Roseburg, OR and he worked at the V.A.M.C. as Chief MHC until 1988. Then he was the Chief MHC in Eugene, OR where he facilitated the opening of a clinic, an expansion of services from Roseburg.
From there he and Lillian traveled around the U.S. working for Locum-Tenens in the field of psychiatry in the states of Idaho, Arkansas, North Dakota, Wyoming, Maine, Kansas, Arizona, Missouri, Oregon, and Washington.
Finally retiring from practice in 2014 at the age of 89.
Carl is survived by his sister, E. Louise Smith, Fort Smith, AR; daughters, Melissa R. (David) Child and Sheila J. Bonner; grandchildren, Benjamin B. Child, Clinton C. Child, Justin E. Bonner, Bailie R. Hillen, and Shaun D. Hillen; and great grandchildren, Finn P. Child and Nora S. Child. All of whom brought him much joy.
Carl's favorite hobbies were the stock market, playing poker, and reading everything he could get his hands on that had to do with history, memoirs, politics, and financiers.
At Carl's request, there will be no service.
