

Caroline attended St. Vincent’s Academy boarding school for girls in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated in 1948 with high honors. She was salutatorian, vice-president of the student council, Red Cross volunteer, treasurer of the debate club, and was voted “Most Studious.” She went on to graduate from the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.
Caroline married Clyde Dilmus Baker in 1950 and had three children, Martin Dilmus Baker (1951-1984), Stephen Clyde Baker (1953-1996) and Susan Elizabeth Baker (1954). She graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a Masters in Education in 1983 and studied French abroad in France. She worked as a French language teacher for high school and elementary grades in Alabama and Mississippi. Caroline’s second marriage was to Raymond Ingram in 1971.
Caroline was a foster parent and provided a temporary home to children in need during the 1990s. She lived in Alabama for most of her life, and briefly lived in Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis Presley. Caroline moved to Oregon in 2011 with her daughter and granddaughter.
Caroline was an accomplished crocheter, and created many beautiful handmade blankets and other hand woven items. She was a lifelong crossword puzzle enthusiast. She also loved her cat Sweet Girl, whom she had for many years.
Caroline was gentle, patient, and kind, and always had an uplifting word for everyone she met. She would likely call you “sweetheart” in her charming southern accent. She had an eye for beauty, a big sense of humor and a bright and enthusiastic laugh. Caroline died on October 25, 2025 at the age of 94 in Portland, Oregon.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Elizabeth Baker, and her granddaughter, Elysia Alexandra Scholl (Martin Baker’s daughter) and grandson-in-law, Anthony Dale Scholl.
