Rose Ann Shook. Charles was born on June 28, 1940, to Lyle Edward Shook and Ruby Alice Carman, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He grew up in the Estacada, Oregon area and graduated from Estacada High School, where many family and friends knew him as Roger.
Charles honorably served four years in the United States Navy. After his service, he returned home to Estacada, where he worked as an auto mechanic before going on to own and operate his own business in the automobile industry. He ran the business alongside his wife, Rose, until his retirement.
He was a proud member of Christ the Vine Lutheran Church in Damascus and a devoted member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.) for more than 40 years, earning lifetime membership.
Chuck was a friendly, social man with a deep passion for genealogy and ancestry research. He spent countless hours creating and uncovering family trees that traced his lineage back to the 1400s. In his spare time, he also enjoyed fishing and metal detecting.
Charles and Rose met in 1963 on a blind date and were instantly smitten. They became engaged within three months, married within six months, and went on to share a loving, adventurous marriage for 62 years—departing this earth together.
Their greatest joy was time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories with their children, Dan and Michelle. As a family, they embarked on many adventures over the years, including RV camping, boating, and dune buggy trips at Florence and Sand Lake. They traveled the Oregon Coast to Nehalem Bay, water skied at Lake Billy Chinook and Detroit Lake, and enjoyed countless trips in their fifth wheel and motorhome. Whether it was a planned excursion or getting stuck in the mud, it was always an adventure.
In retirement, Charles and Rose fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Alaska in their motorhome with close friends. They also toured the American South, visiting family in Texas and traveling through Louisiana, Florida, and Tennessee.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Ann Shook; his parents, Lyle and Ruby Shook; and his brother, Robert Lyle Shook.
He is survived by his loving children, Daniel Shook and Michelle Madarieta (Jon Madarieta); sister-in-law, Dorathy Dewitt (Bill Dewitt); brothers-in-law, Don Ruecker (Teri Ruecker) and Alan Ruecker; grandchildren, Lauren and Aidan Shook; and many nieces and nephews.
Please join the family in honoring the lives of Charles and Rose on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 4:00 PM, for a Celebration of Life and reception at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge, 7553 NE Quatama St., Hillsboro, OR 97124.
