She attended Mary Woodward Elementary School, Phil Lewis Elementary School, Fowler Junior High and graduated from Tigard High School. Christa attended classes at Portland Community College and graduated with a degree in Cosmetology from Phagan’s School of Hair Design.
She was employed at Supercuts working her way up from Receptionist to Manager. When she felt it was time to change shops, many of her clients followed – a testament to her skill as a hairdresser. Her genuine care for her clients was evident. When her elderly clients became unable to come in to the shop, Christa would go to them. For people undergoing chemotherapy, Christa created a positive environment to shave their heads to help ease their transition. For the last several years, Christa managed the Super Cuts, near King City, in Tigard.
She took her role as the family hair stylist seriously and was determined to ensure that no one ever had bad hair. Whether she was doing routine cuts and colors, doing everyone’s hair on her own wedding day, or walking someone through how to do her sister’s hair just two days before Christa passed, she always made sure everyone in the family had good hair.
Family was a priority. Growing up, she provided guidance to her much younger siblings, especially when mom and dad had a hard time getting through to them. She cared about everyone and took care of everyone. Christa (the spontaneous one) teamed up with her sister, Jennifer (the planner), to take care of family members.
On July 23, 2006, Christa married Grant Abrams. On August 28, 2012 they welcomed a daughter, Alexandria Lorelei, into the world and the role of mother became her first priority. Christa and Grant enjoyed taking Lexie to the beach and exploring Jenkins Estate in Beaverton. She enjoyed trying new restaurants with Grant, eating at many Portland had to offer. Christa was an avid reader and read anything you put in front of her (except science fiction – she might pass on that) and enjoyed crocheting. Outside, Christa enjoyed running, whether she was jogging with Lexie in a jogging stroller (not an easy task), running a half marathon, or trying to work her way up to a full marathon.
After a hard fought 16 month battle with cancer, Christa passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, April 12, 2015. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Grant, and daughter, Lexie, of Beaverton; mother and step-father, Gerlinde and Paul Lamer of Tigard; father and step-mother, Wayne and Holly Maunu of Portland; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Brian Lindeman, and niece, Samantha Lindeman, of Clackamas; sister, Felicia Maunu of Portland; brothers, Spencer Maunu of Corvallis, and Toby Maunu of Gresham; countless friends and co-workers. Christa was preceded in death by her younger sister, Karen Maunu in 1992
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Tigard. Christa will be laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens, Portland, on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Christa Abrams Memorial Fund by Kristine Holmes @ GoFundMe.com.
