Clifford Norman Colvin was born December 1, 1941 in McMinnville, OR to Norman Taylor and Agnes May Colvin. He was raised in the Sheridan and Willamina area of Oregon. He attended Willamina Grade School, graduated from Laurel Wood Academy in Gaston, OR. in 1960, then went on to pursue his higher education at Walla Walla University, ultimately graduating from Warner Pacific College in 1973 with a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a focus in lab technology. In later years, he also earned his X-ray certification.
On August 30, 1964, Cliff exchanged wedding vows with Phyllis Hegney in Colville, Wa. The couple then moved to Portland, OR. They were blessed with two children, Larry in 1970 and Linda in 1972. In 1966, Cliff was drafted into the United States Army where he served honorably until his discharge in 1968.
Cliff worked as a lab technician for 46 years; 22 years of which were spent working at Oakridge Medical Clinic in Lake Oswego as their lab/x-ray technician. He retired on July 31, 2010.
During his life Cliff enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, mountain climbing, and even rock climbing. His family and friends joined him often, and they all share many fond memories of outings together.
Cliff was always a man of strong faith. He was a member of the Stone Tower Church in Portland, OR. since 1964. He served as Pathfinder Director for about 12 years, and was an elder for 20 years, 15 of which he served as Head Elder.
On June 28, 2011, Cliff was diagnosed with a rare and cancerous brain tumor that was inoperable. In the face of this tragic diagnosis, Cliff did the only thing he could think of that made sense - he went hiking with his family at Wahclella Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. Seventeen short days later, on July 14, 2011, Cliff fell asleep in Jesus.
A memorial service will be held at 3PM, Saturday, July 23, 2011 in the Stone Tower Church in Portland, Ore. Viewing will be from 10am to 5pm, Thursday, July 21, Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23 in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside service details are still pending.
Cliff will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, son and grandfather. He was strong and ambitious. He understood the true value of family and friends. He was a strong provider for his family and a great supporter to his many friends. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Phyllis of Portland, OR; children, Larry Colvin of Bend, OR and Linda De Clue of Portland, OR; father, Norman Colvin; sister, Beverly Neil; grandchildren, Jeremy Colvin and Phillip De Clue; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. His memory will be forever cherished.
